For as long as I can remember, I have had a love, fascination and admiration for the city that never sleeps. I remember being 7 years old, admiring a photo of NYC skyscrapers and telling my dad , “I am going to live there one day”.
Therefore after college, I began (what felt like an endless attempt) my effort to making my dream a reality. I was applying to so many jobs and my efforts were either going unanswered to or I was receiving emails/ calls asking, “You know this role is in NYC, right”? Of course I did.
What is there not to love about this glamorous city with the endless hustle and bustle? (Well, there are a few things, but I will save for another story, haha)
The Skyscrapers : Ahh I am just, still to this day, so enthralled with skyscrapers. My heart belongs in the city, NYC to be exact. It never fails, just stepping off the subway or returning home (to NYC), I am always filled with a sense of joy, energy and reassurance of, “I can achieve anything I set my mind to”.
Then there are the hidden gems. Every city has them, but of course, NYC is just filled with them. Every time, I begin to believe that I am aware of most of them, I am amazed to learn of a new secret the city holds. There’s the secret communication archway in Grand Central Station, to abandoned subways stations and so much more.
NYC has an amazing subway system that with ease and quickness transports you all over the 5 boroughs and then some. For someone who isn’t a fan of driving and traffic, this is a huge win for myself.
Of course, there is the admiration for fashion that is apparent every way you turn.
Then the food. For a foodie like myself, I can assure you, I always have a happy belly.
NYC, well the east coast in general, actually has 4 seasons. For someone like myself, having grown up in southern California, where is is usually sunny and either warm or hot year around, this was an entirely new experience. Of course I get burnt out with winter every year, but that’s just because I can only take so much cold until I begin to go crazy.
I find it difficult to articulate what exactly I love about NYC so much.
Possibly the glamour and sophistication the city beholds, or possibly the monumental skyscrapers. Perhaps the infinite selection of restaurants up and down every block, which surely satisfies a foodies appetite. Maybe the fast paced hustle and bustle that emanates the feeling of “every dream is possible”.
